2023 May Student of the Month Katelyn Ellis

May 3, 2023

Congratulations to the Ogden High School May Student of the Month, Katelyn Ellis. Katelyn is the daughter of Paul and Jennifer Ellis and a sister to Maddie Ellis. She shares her home with the family's black Labrador Ace.

Katelyn is truly one of Ogden’s finest, well-rounded students in academics, arts, and athletics. She has maintained a spot on the high school honor roll all four years and was inducted into the National Honor Society as a Junior. Her high academic achievement makes her a role model in the school's mentoring program.

In athletics, Katelyn is a whirlwind in volleyball and basketball lettering in both. In her four-year career in basketball, Katelyn earned a WCAC Teams-Honorable Mention for the 21/22 season and qualified for the Academic All-Conference. In her final season, 22/23, Katelyn was nominated for the E. Wayne Cooley Award. She supports her teammates and is always eager to boost team spirit with words of advice and encouragement. Katelyn played volleyball all four years and was a part of the 2022 KWBG All Boone County 2nd Team.

Katelyn is one of Ogden’s top performers in a number of arts programs. Katelyn is an outstanding performer in both solo and group musical theater in the school speech program. She has won numerous district and state awards through the IHSSA. Katelyn’s love for music is evident in her performances in the school musicals and even earned her the 2023 IHSMTA Triple Threat Award for her role as Cinderella. She has participated in both Concert and Chamber Choir all four years of high school lifting the choir to All-State Honor Choir in her junior and senior years.

Outside of school, Katelyn has worked part-time during the summers helping her dad in construction and working for Hall and Martin Landscape Services. She has also been the concession stand manager for the City of Ogden’s little league program for the past two summers. She also volunteers with St. John’s Youth Group.

After high school, Katelyn plans to attend Central College and major in Psychology (with a focus on pre-med). She auditioned for and will be participating in Central’s A Cappella Choir. Katelyn is currently taking the DMACC EMT course through OHS and plans to work part-time as an EMT while in college.
