April Student of the Month
April 02, 2008
Hard worker, leader, caretaker, peacemaker, artist, actor, comedian, friend, son, grandson - these are just a few roles that describe Nick DeGroote; April's Student of the Month. Nick is a role model for all students, demonstrating the fact that with hard work, great achievements can be reached and dreams can come true. Nick has been a student who has grown tremendously over the last four years. His efforts in the classroom have paid off. He has been an honor roll student, a member of the National Honor Society, and a recipient of the Bulldog Achievement Award.
Nick has been very active in high school. He has lead the student body as Vice President this year, and is also President of Art Club. Nick has also been very active in the school newspaper and the OHS Yearbook. In addition to taking a heavy load and variety of core classes, Nick has also participated in four years of Spanish and Art. He has been a part of large group speech, the spring play, and cross country as well. He has also supported the Ogden Summer School Program as a tutor.
Nick is of creative mind, sound soul, and intellectual personality. He is one of those people who can envision something, spend hours working on getting it done, and appreciate the end product. He knows how to inspire people and get things going. He is not afraid to take on big projects. If the help and support isn't there, he is one of the first to take charge and help the situation.
Nick is a kind and caring person. He is great friend; he knows how to listen and care for people. He is always one to make positive personal choices and do what is right for the cause. He is a great influence and inspiration for his family and friends. Nick is very compassionate and understanding, and is there to encourage and support anyone in need.
When Nick isn't studying or participating in school activities, he enjoys art, reading, writing, video games, music, running, and hanging out with his family and friends. Family members include parents Ben and Kellie Hull, and Perry DeGroote; brother Cody, a junior at Iowa State; and sister Kaitlin, seventh grader at OMS.
It is no surprise to his OHS family that Nick is planning to attend medical school and become an oncologist. He has been accepted at Iowa State University where he plans on majoring in Biology.
