Faith, Family and Fashion…Hannah Van Sickle - May Student of the Month
Hannah Van Sickle has been named as OHS Student of the Month for May. She is a special and deserving candidate. Her most noticeable qualities and traits come from her faith, her family and interest in fashion.
Hannah believes that having a strong faith contributes to her strong foundation. She strongly believes in the motto “do unto others…” . Her ability to care for people, offer kind words and support, and give to her community bring Hannah to the forefront. She has been involved in many service activities including: mission trips locally and nationally, being a member of Waters Edge, Bulldog Builders, Bethel Youth Group, Ogden’s Mentoring Program, Relay for Life, Senior Can Drive Chair, Locks of Love, Blood Donor, and Art in the Park volunteer.
Family involvement has played an important role in Hannah’s life. She shares many close ties and connections with her parents, 5 brothers, and foster sisters. They have influenced her in many ways. Her strong family values have given Hannah the opportunity to reach out to her friends, teachers and peers in the most positive and caring way. She has been an influential and valuable member of her school community. She has been able to serve and lead in many school activities such as: chorus, chamber choir, drama, volleyball, basketball, soccer, track, band, student council, art club and national honor society. Hannah has also been activities coordinator for her 4-H group, the Amaqua Warriors.
Hannah has a very strong interest in fashion design. She has been interested in fashion from early on and continues her studies by taking a Fashion Design course at Ames High this year. She was involved in setting up a combined field trip this winter to the Mall of America including Ames High School and Ogden High School students. Hannah has spent many hours as a fine art student as well earning several art awards including the Heart of Iowa Conference Art Show. She has taken a large variety of art courses and is finishing her senior year taking Advanced Art Studio along with her general studies. She is planning to attend college to major in Fashion Design and/or Art Therapy.
Hannah is supported by her parents, Mike and Kim Van Sickle, 5 brothers, Jacob, Ashton, Jeshua, Micah and Jon Shai, and 3 foster sisters. Congratulations Hannah!
