OGDEN COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD OF EDUCATION
The publicly elected five-member Board of Education is responsible for setting policy for the Ogden Community School District. Each board member's term is for three years. The Board of Education conducts its business meetings at Ogden High School, 732 East Division Street, at 6:30 p.m. on the second Monday of each month, except September, when they meet the third Monday of the month. The district invites public comments during "Open Forum," which is generally at the beginning of each board meeting. Bill Roederer: Superintendent of Schools
Bill is in his eighth year as Superintendent in the Ogden Community School District. Prior to becoming superintendent in Ogden, Bill was the Superintendent of Schools in the Remesen-Union Community School District for three years. Prior to his employment in Remsen, he was the Associate Principal/Activities Director at Grinnell High School. Bill was also the Jr-Sr High School Principal at Remesen-Union before moving to Grinnell. As a teacher, Bill taught Business Education courses in Keokuk for two years and Adair-Casey for three years.
Bill received his Ed. S. (Education Specialist Degree) from the University of Iowa; his M.A. (Master of Arts Degree) in School Administration from Northwest Missouri State University; and his B.A. (Bachelor of Arts Degree) in Education from the University of Northern Iowa. Bill was born and raised in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
Bill and his wife Lisa have three children: Brittany - Junior at the University of Iowa; Amanda - 9th grader at Ogden High School; and Brandt - 6th grader at Ogden Middle School. Lisa is a Corporate Quality Assurance Nurse with Signature Care Centers LLC., Johnston, Iowa.
Kris VanPelt: Board Business Manager
Kris Van Pelt has been the Board Business Manager of the district since 2001 and has been employed by the district since August 1997. Kris was previously the Secretary in the Superintendent's Office. Her husband, Dave is employed by Boone County as a Foreman of Secondary Roads. They have two children: Jamie is a 1999 graduate of OHS and a 2003 graduate of the University of Northern Iowa. She is currently employed with the Des Moines Register as an Account Executive. Aaron is a 2004 graduate of OHS and he is currently a senior at the University of Iowa. Kris enjoys family time, walking and the Iowa Hawkeyes!!!
Tom Cleveland: School Board President
Tom Cleveland is the President of the Ogden School Board and is serving his ninth year on the Board of Education. Tom and his wife, Judy, have three children. Karen, a 1998 OHS graduate, is a psychology graduate student at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA; Kelly, a 2001 OHS graduate, is attending the University of Mississippi for Women in Columbus, MS; and Kurt is a sophomore at Ogden High School.
Tom is employed as the Location Manager for Heartland Cooperative in Stanhope, IA. Judy is a Technology Specialist for Heartland Area Education Agency 11 in Johnston. Tom and Judy stay involved with Ogden youth as Senior High Sunday School teachers at the Methodist Church in Ogden and as leaders of the Bulldog Builders, an OHS Youth Group.
Sam Germer: School Board Vice-President
Sam is a graduate from Tri-County High School in DeWitt, Nebraska in 1979 and received his Bachelors degree from the college of Agriculture (Agronomy and Agricultural Economics) at the University of Nebraska in the spring of 1983. He and his wife, Leticia (Tish) moved to Iowa in 1984 and into the Ogden Community in February, 1994.
Tish, Sam’s spouse of 24 years, is employed as a Special Education teacher in a 3rd grade collaborative classroom in the Perry Community School District. Sam & Tish have three children. Caitlin is 19 and a freshman at Wartburg College, Chelsea is 16 and is a sophomore, and Avery who is 10 and in 4th grade at Howe Elementary. They are members of Community United Methodist Church in Ogden.
Sam is co-founder of Pro Compliance Inc., and part owner of Regulatory Consultants, Incorporated (RCI). RCI is a firm providing safety and regulatory compliance consulting and internet based record-keeping products to businesses across the United States and Canada. The firm deals with all different types of business including aerospace, automobile dealers, implement dealers and bio-fuels entities.
Toby Klauenberg: School Board Member
Toby and his wife Jennifer have 4 children: Toby Jo - Sophomore at OHS; Byron - 8th grader at OMS; Charlie Sue - 3rd grader at Howe Elementary; and Allea - 1st Grader at Howe Elementary. Toby is a native Iowan, born and raised in Baxter, Iowa. He graduated from Baxter Community Schools in 1981. Toby graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.
Toby currently tours internationally as a solo comedic performer. He owns and operates the Funny Farm, Iowa's oldest entertainment consulting firm. The family also owns and operates Main Street Laundry, a self-serve laundry service in Ogden.
Kim Paulsen: School Board Member
Kim and her husband Kendal have 2 children: Conner age 10 and Courtney age 8, both students at Howe Elementary. Kim has been working for Ogden Family Dental the past 9 years, while Kendal has been employed for Ogden Telephone Company for 8 years. Kim is a graduate from Storm Lake High School in 1990, and then received her bachelor's degree in Education from the University of South Dakota in 1994.
Kim's interest in becoming a school board member came from her degree in Education. I have always had an appreciation for the administrators and employees that work with our children every day. I wanted to share my vision and dedication as both a parent and educator by becoming involved in the responsibilities given to me as a school board member.
Heidi Thompson: School Board Member
Heidi and her husband, Sean, are the parents of two sons: Trey is a 5th grader at OMS, and Jade is a 2nd grader at Howe Elementary. Heidi is employed as a Quality Assurance Manager for Tyler Technologies, a local government software company. She graduated from Iowa State University in 1994 with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communications. Sean teaches school in the East Greene Community School District. Heidi and Sean moved to Ogden in 1995.
