Open Enrollment

The following information is provided by the Iowa Department of Education:

Open Enrollment is the process by which parents/guardians residing in an Iowa district may enroll their children into another Iowa school district under the terms and conditions of Iowa Code section 282.18 and the administrative rules of the Iowa Department of Education, 281 Iowa Administrative Code Chapter 17.

Senate File 2435 reinstates the March 1 open enrollment deadline for grades 1-12 student requests and the September 1 open enrollment deadline for kindergarten students and pre-K students enrolled in special education programs requests. This law goes into effect on July 1, 2024:

As a parent of a student who attends a public school district receiving Title I funds, you have the right to inquire and receive information about the qualifications of your child's teacher. If your child is taught by a non-highly qualified teacher for a period of four or more consecutive weeks, you will be notified.
