2023 May Student of the Month Amelia Schroeder

May 3, 2023

Ogden High School is proud to honor Amelia Schroeder as the Student of the Month for May. Amelia is the daughter of Camille and Craig Schroeder, sibling to Channing, Hope and August, and sister-in-law to Lena. Amelia has distinguished herself amongst her peers in a wide variety of artistic, extracurricular and academic pursuits.

Amelia is an extremely talented musician and vocalist - playing both flute and piccolo in concert, pep, and marching band, and participating in chamber, concert, jazz and show choir. Among her many honors in these activities are being named Drum Major for the 22-23 school year, the first chair flute in concert choir, a regular soloist in chamber choir, a 2022 all-state vocalist, a 2022 Wartburg Meistersinger Honor Choir member, as well as being awarded best of center sophomore year vocal solo and best of center octet and chamber choir in April of 2023. She is also active in musical theater, participating in the State Speech musical theater competition her junior and senior year, and being cast in the 2022 production of Cinderella, and other musical ensemble roles in previous years.

Amelia is an accomplished golfer - having medaled at multiple events as a member of the varsity golf team. She has also been a member of the volleyball team for 4 years. She is also in many clubs and extracurricular activities such as the alliance club, the computer math & science club, robotics club and student government. Honors include being named the student body vice president, captain and drive coach of the robotics team, representing Boone County at the Rotary Youth Leader Award event in Summer of 2021, being selected as the Daughters of the American Revolution Boone County Citizenship Award recipient in 2023, and being selected as a Fall 2023 Hixson Scholar for Iowa State University.

Amelia has also dedicated considerable time to the Girls Who Code program her senior year. She applied and was accepted into the Girls Who Code program as a way to learn coding skills, meet others interested in the tech field, and gain a network of peers and mentors as a woman looking to enter into software engineering - an area that is historically male dominated. She has been selected to multiple cohorts in the past year, and the experience has solidified her choice of college major, and has helped her with doing programming of the robot on the robotics team.

Anyone who has worked with or alongside Amelia knows that these numerous accomplishments pale in comparison to her greatest qualities - that she is, above all else, an exceptionally kind and thoughtful person.

Outside of school, Amelia works at Seven Oaks Recreation, volunteers, and enjoys spending time with family, friends, her dogs, reading and watching foreign films. She will be pursuing degrees in Software Engineering and International Studies at Iowa State University where she also plans to study abroad.

Congratulations Amelia! We are so proud of you!
