2024 Student of the Month

October 4, 2024

What a great way to kick off the fall by celebrating one of Ogden High School’s finest students, Owen Bergstrom, as our October Student of the Month. Whether in the classroom, on the field, or center stage, Owen has helped raise the bar at Ogden Schools with his passion, hard work, integrity, and leadership. While balancing academics, extra-curriculars, and volunteering in the community, Owen brings his full commitment and determination to every endeavor he undertakes. Owen is the son of Pete and Mary Bergstrom and brother to Thomas and Aaron.

Owen’s academic record is stellar; he is consistently on the honor roll. He is a member of the National Honor Society. He has served on Student Council all four years, and this year, he serves as the Student Body President. Owen was a member of the inaugural Robotics team and a leader since day one. His positive mindset and contagious attitude helped them qualify for the FIRST World Competition. Owen participates in Football and Track & Field. In football, he was selected as an Honorable Mention All-District Lineman his junior year. This year, as a senior, he serves as a captain. He was also recently selected by the student body as Homecoming King.

A gifted and dedicated musician, Owen has garnered many accolades in band and chorus. He is a member of the Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, Show Choir, Jazz Choir, Musical, Marching Band, Concert Band, Pep Band, and Jazz Band. He was selected to participate in the prestigious Iowa All-State Chorus in 2022 and 2023. He has captured audiences with his lead roles in the fall musical every year while in high school. Having performed several solos and been a member of countless ensembles, Owen has received numerous Division 1 ratings and Outstanding Performance Awards at state music contests. His jazz solos have been selected as outstanding by many judges across the state. This fall, he serves as Drum Major for the marching band.

Outside of school, Owen is involved in various other activities. He showed dairy cows when he was a part of the Westside Hustlers 4-H club and has participated in a mission trip to Mississippi with the Bulldog Builders. As a member of the Community United Methodist Church, Owen is part of the church choir, praise band, and also volunteers at Vacation Bible School each summer. Owen frequently helps out at the concession stand, and last year, he volunteered with Meals for the Heartland. He participates in the Riptide Youth Group and has served as a youth soccer referee. These experiences have developed a strong sense of responsibility and a deep appreciation for serving others.

Perhaps more impressive than his many accomplishments is the character Owen has demonstrated during his years at Ogden. He is a dependable and hardworking teammate, and a diligent and thoughtful student. He has displayed class, integrity, and humility while being a remarkable role model. After high school, Owen plans to get a mechanical engineering degree at Iowa State. We can’t wait to see what the future holds! Congratulations, Owen on a job well done! Bravo!
