
Ogden High School is proud to honor Vandon Roosa as our February Student of the Month! Vandon is an exceptional student who not only excels academically but also makes a significant impact through his involvement in various co-curricular activities and leadership roles. Vandon is the son of John and Julie Roosa and brother to Marinza.
Vandon has been an integral member of multiple teams and ensembles during his time at school. His dedication to athletics is exemplified by his impressive four-year involvement in football, where he served as team captain for the 2024 season. In track and field, Vandon’s accomplishments include being a state qualifier as part of the distance medley team and a member of the OHS record-holding sprint and distance medley teams for 2024. Vandon's numerous honors include the Academic Excellence Award and he has been recognized as a member of the All-District Academic Team for football.
In the realm of music, Vandon has showcased his talent as a musician over four years and has been actively involved in pep band, marching band, jazz band, concert choir, jazz choir, show choir, chamber choir, and musical. As a dedicated performer, he has participated in countless music contests and achieved numerous Division 1 ratings. He was awarded a Vocal Director’s Award in 2024 and was a member of the Chamber Choir which received an Outstanding Festival Performance honor from the Iowa High School Music Association in 2022. His leadership is highlighted by his appointment as the Bass Section Leader for choir and Brass Captain for marching band.
Vandon also shows remarkable community spirit through his participation in service projects and leadership roles outside academics. He served as team manager for the OHS girls’ basketball team and has been a long-time participant at Camp Hertko Hollow, a summer camp for kids with diabetes. Notably, he has captained "Vandon’s Avengers," a team dedicated to raising funds for the Walk to Cure Type 1 Diabetes for twelve years. Vandon has been an essential part of the Robotics team and has contributed significantly to its success.
In addition to his co-curricular and community activities, Vandon has balanced work experience with his responsibilities as a student. He has worked for Seven Oaks for three years, spent one year at the Boone Scenic Valley Dinner Train, and has officiated youth basketball games. His academic excellence speaks volumes; he has made the honor roll for four years, is a two-year member of the National Honor Society, and was selected for the Wartburg Meistersinger Honor Choir.
In planning for the future, Vandon aspires to pursue a degree in Software Engineering at Iowa State University. His impressive array of activities, leadership roles, and commitment to both academics and community service reflects the qualities we seek to celebrate at Ogden. Vandon’s hard work, leadership, and determination make him an inspiration to his peers and an admirable representative of our school community. Congratulations, Vandon!
